A bit tough

Saturday was a bit tough.

I really wanted to win. I really wanted to win a Vegan Cook-off. I was going to make Vegan cheesecake and blow those judges socks off. I'd made vegan cheesecake before and it turned out really great. Surprisingly great in fact. So I thought it'd be a piece of cake (wa wa waaa (trombone sound)). Goodness it didn't turn out that way. I burned my arm nicely trying to rotate them. It didn't taste fabulous. It didn't look fabulous. I did not enter. It was going to be a feather in my hat, but alas. Now I don't know what to do with it. Sigh

I wanted to go swimming with my nieces. I told my sweet baby girl that we could spend some time together, then her daddy wouldn't answer the phone. It was going to be so fun. Me and Nick were going to go swimming with the girls, and I'd get a tan and get to feel loved unconditionally for a little while. Nieces and nephews are awesome at that. Guess that's how it goes as well when you're one of their favorite Aunties. I tried and tried to get a hold of them but couldn't. Bummer

I built both of these events/outings up in my mind to make my day great. Unfortunately, they didn't work out.

There is an upside to my story.

'500 Days of Summer'

One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I walked out of the theater on xylophone keys that light up. Which means fun, uplifted, and hopeful. I know, it's not the most understandable analogy but that's what came to mind. Nick and I laughed hard and smiled a lot. As I left the theater, I also saw a friend I haven't seen in a while and I was genuinely happy to see her and I waved at her (maybe a bit strangely) energetically. But it was one of those really quick interactions where there's a genuine happiness to see someone and just say hi even if it's a quick wave from a car window.

My day ended well. I didn't get a Vegan Cook-off blue ribbon, but I'm not vegan anyway. I didn't get to go swimming with the teeny ladies but there's still a lot of summer left.

Bring on next week!

I'm glad you saw that. I wondered how it would be.
